Hardyston BOE's First Meeting: Where Are Their Priorities?

New BOE leadership focused on screens instead of students.

Let us congratulate our freshly sworn-in “Kids First” candidates tonight. This evening, Donna Carey was elected President of the Board, and Jean Barrett was elected Vice President. I wish them a term full of growth and the chance to truly shine under pressure.

But as we celebrated the achievements of our students, one might wonder: what could be more important than recognizing their success?

Spectating the Recognition of Our Students

Here’s what leadership looked like at tonight’s meeting:

As our students stood to be acknowledged, what captured the attention of our new board leaders? Was it policy notes? Urgent school matters? Or was something else more pressing than the very children they were elected to serve?

A Time to Lead

Public service comes with responsibility. A school board’s first duty is to put students first, not just in name, but in action. Leadership is more than a title-it’s a commitment.

So we ask: What is more important than our kids?
